Who's Who at St. Pauls
Rev Simon Couper
Hello, I’m Simon and I am the vicar here at St Paul’s Beckenham.
My wife, two boys and I moved to the area in 2017 when I took up post. As vicar, I oversee the work of the parish, and I am supported in this with the help of the many committed volunteers who make St Paul’s such a fun and vibrant place to serve.
My desire is for St Paul’s to continue to grow as a Christ-centred community, as together we seek to be faithful to the Scriptures, reliant on God’s Spirit and attentive to the needs of our wider community and society.
I love spending time with people, particularly my boys who are a delight to Anna and me. Away from “churchy” things, I have two somewhat contradictory passions, cooking and sport. Basically, I exercise to justify my love of Italian cuisine.
Stephanie Fox - Church Administrator
Hello, I’m Stephanie and I am the Administrator at St Paul’s. I do a variety of admin jobs, including taking hall bookings. I really enjoy working with the people in the church and in the New Beckenham community.
I have lived in Beckenham for 30 years with my husband Tim, and love spending time with friends and family, especially our three grown-up children. My other interests include music, walking, playing games, and singing with the St Paul’s Community Choir.
Rosemary Dear - Church Warden
Richard Bradley - Church Warden
Simon Dalwood - Lay Reader
My connection with St Paul’s goes back to 1976 when Suzy & I got married. After a number of years in Bristol we returned to Beckenham and with the family we started worshipping at St Paul’s. My three children attended the Sunday School and were members of the Junior choir. I've been involved in the life of the Church in a variety of ways: served on the PCC and Deanery Synod; been involved pastoral visiting; and in particular have been part of the Ministry Team.
I was licensed as a Reader in 1991 and have been leading and preaching regularly since then. It has been a joy to serve under four different Vicars and to help during several interregna. A couple of years ago I retired from teaching Mathematics and being the Public Examinations Officer at Alleyn’s School. My interests include music, of various genres, IT, and now very much family – Suzy & I have eight grandchildren.
Sarah Butler - Lay Reader
I moved to Beckenham in 1991 and quickly
found my way to St Paul’s. My participation
in the life of the church has been varied,
from the gardening team, to the sound system,
as well as involvement with children and
young people of all ages.
In 2009 I was licensed as a Reader and enjoy preaching and leading services. I am also a member of the Prayer Ministry Team. Apart from St Paul’s I have recently retired from a full-time job in the Civil Service and am currently also a carer for my elderly mother. My other interests are bird-watching, photography and music.
Anne Howick - Pastoral Assistant
David Charlesworth - Lay Evangelist
I spend most of my life outside of church circles - family, work, sport, music and motorbikes - but faith is an integral part of all of them and life in general. Since becoming a Christian, faith has proved not only to be a great road map on how to try and live life, but has been a deep spiritual experience of knowing and being loved by God directly.
As an evangelist I'm called to share that experience in a gentle and practical way with those who wonder what Christian faith might mean for them.
